Indianapolis, Indiana — Andrew Ireland, a Republican candidate for Indiana Statehouse District 90 and a former Deputy Indiana Attorney General, is calling for a new law to give Indiana’s next Governor the power to remove local prosecutors and judges who fail to live up to their oath.
“Our local prosecutor, Ryan Mears, and many of our trial judges have gone rogue and have paved the way for the revolving door crime wave we’re now experiencing in Indianapolis,” said conservative Republican Andrew Ireland. “It’s time for the Statehouse to step in and clean up the mess in our capital city. That starts by giving our next Governor the tools to remove officials who violate their oaths by failing to enforce the law and refusing to hold violent criminals accountable.”
Public safety in Indianapolis is a centerpiece of Ireland’s campaign. He has also called for:
Empowering the Indiana Attorney General to go after offenses that local prosecutors fail to prosecute and taking any related costs directly from the local prosecutors’ budgets.
Waiving civil immunity for local prosecutors and judges who knowingly put violent criminals back on the streets to reoffend.
Tasking the Indiana Supreme Court’s Disciplinary Commission with policing local prosecutors for violations of their oaths of office, including suspension and disbarment for enacting blanket non-enforcement policies.
Ireland is a practicing attorney and started his legal career as a Deputy Attorney General for the State of Indiana. He worked primarily on high-profile appeals including cases defending the Right to Life and election integrity and fighting the Biden Administration’s immigration policies.
